Rollin' Over On Us
Keith Axtman ©2006

"This is a song about letting go, taking chances and letting yourself be free during all the chemistry and uncertainty in the beginnings of a new romance." - Keith

You smile, I smile back, a conversation put us right on track
By the end of the day, I convinced you to stay, a little longer, just a little longer
We got lost in the rush of each other's touch and didn't care if anyone was looking at us
The things I want to say I don't think I should say, but these feelings inside me just won't go away

Baby lay down with me, let yourself be free
As these feelings roll over, over on us
When I look in your eyes, there's no way to disguise
That what we're feeling is love rollin' over on us

You were thinking just what I was thinking, emotions getting deep and we're sinking
The first taste of your kiss was the last thing on my list to ever happen, I can't believe it's happened
We just let go of everything we know, a fire is burning baby and we're letting it show
The things I want to do I don't think I should do, but I can't fight this attraction to you

(Chorus Repeat)

Both our lives were changed that day, when black and white became shades of gray

(Chorus Repeat)

From This Day Forth
Keith Axtman ©2000

"This was the only song I wrote that had a deadline. I wrote it to sing at my wedding so I had to have it finished. Looking back it was pretty cool that on that day in August there were thunderstorms all around us except in the park where we were married. We never got rained on. It really fits the first line of the chorus "I've never seen the sun shine down in just one place." Victoria Shaw doesn't like this song, but then in her words, "my worst song is better than your best song", so I guess I'll never win with her." - Keith

Waking up this morning, once asleep but now my eyes see
What my heart's been wanting, is standing right in front of me

You're so captivating, and you sure look good in white
There's no speculating, you're the one for my side

I've never seen the sun shine down in just one place
And I'm bettin' God can see that smile on your face
I see the dream that I've been dreamin' all my life
And it feels so good to realize,
From This Day Forth you're my wife

I'm so complete whenever you're around
And my soul mate has been found, in you

In a time that seems so short, you and I have come so far,
From it's nice to meet you, to I love you with all my heart

At this new beginning, a vow we've taken on this day,
Love that's everlasting, and he will guide us on our way

(Chorus Repeat)

I'm Going Under
Keith Axtman ©2004

"I love inspiration that comes from going to hear a loud rock band, getting drunk, meeting a couple of strippers, and puking in the back parking lot of the bar. This one is a true story and just so you know, I'm the 'buddy' in the song." - Keith

You've got a body that makes me sweat; You got me revvin' hotter than a turbo vet,
I've got the money if you've got the time,
Tonight now baby you're mine all mine all mine,
You're coming on stronger than a dog in heat, Droolin' over me like a piece of meat,
You bought my drink, you bought my attention,
You got me thinkin' thoughts that I can't mention
A storm is coming and I feel the thunder,
One more look, is it any wonder, I can't stop it, I'm going under

You might say that I had my pick, Cuz I convinced my buddy to take the fat chick,
He shouldn't feel bad 'cuz he got burned,
It was our plan but it was his turn (Turn to burn)
I'm gonna flirt a little bit more, 'Till I get that body out on the floor,
You get me high with the way you move around,
But you take me even higher when you move it on down down (On down)
A storm is coming and I feel the thunder,
One more dance, is it any wonder, I can't stop it, I'm going under

I made you blush when I asked what you did,
I blushed back when you said you danced for tips,
You make me nervous, my will is getting weak,
You're a whole lot of trouble and I'm getting in deep (So deep)
I left the life that I knew, Just to spend one minute more with you,
I tried to stick around so I could see your rack,
But my buddy's pukin' in the parking lot out back
A storm is coming and I feel the thunder,
One more touch, is it any wonder, I can't stop it, I'm going under

Tell Me All the Things I Don't Wanna Hear
Keith Axtman ©2004

"A buddy of mine met a producer for Hal Ketchum who mentioned he was looking for new material. So I wrote this song that I thought Hal might like. Of course, Hal will probably freeze over before Hal actually records it." - Keith

You drove me right, to the bottom of this glass
And I didn't know, if this feeling would ever pass
I've been trying to find my way back to a normal life
But all that changed, when I saw you tonight

So tell me all the things I don't wanna hear,
Tell me that you've loved me all these years,
Tell me how much you miss me so, And can't let go;
Tell me you were wrong for givin' up
And all it really takes is Love,
Help me stop the tears, and tell me all the things that I don't wanna hear

Baby there must be, a way to set these feelings down,
But after all this time, I still don't have it figured out,
'Cuz the hardest thing I've done was to let you go,
So tell me something, I don't wanna know

Just tell me all the things I don't wanna hear,
Tell me that you've loved me all these years,
Tell me how much you miss me so, And can't let go;
Tell me you were wrong for givin' up
And all it really takes is Love,
Help me stop the tears, and tell me all the things that I don't wanna hear
Help me stop the tears, just tell me all the things that I don't wanna hear

Caroline
Keith Axtman ©2004

"A song that deals with the breakdown in communication between men and women due to the whole men are from Mars women are from Venus thing. And no, my wife's name isn't Caroline." - Keith

Baby I wish, you would, come back to this earth
So I could make sense of what you say
But the words that rush out your mouth
Are words that I've never heard from any other earth girl that way

And I don't think I can find, a way to translate your mind,
No I don't have that kind of time
If you'd only give me a sign, I wouldn't need to use a lifeline,
To figure out if you're really mine, whoa oh oh Caroline

You say, everything, and nothing at the same time,
And you got it right down to an art
You love me, you hate me, well you change it everyday,
It doesn't matter you still win my heart

And I don't ever wanna lose, so I'm laying it all on the line,
A simple yes or no would be fine,
If you'd only give me a sign, I wouldn't need to use a lifeline,
To figure out if you're really mine, whoa oh oh Caroline

I wonder if I will ever find out, the secret to your world,
Where you've been living in,
Mars & Venus would never be between us again,
but where do we go til then, yea-ah

And I don't think I can find, a way to translate your mind,
No I don't have that kind of time
If you'd only give me a sign, I wouldn't need to use a lifeline,
To figure out if you're really mine, whoa oh oh Caroline

Think About Me
Keith Axtman ©2005

"This is a song about a coworker of mine who at only 48, had retired after putting in her 30 years and had her whole life ahead of her. Unfortunately she passed away 2 years later due to a battle with cancer. This song wasn't meant to be a sad song but more a celebration of her life. She was a huge country fan and came out often to see me perform. She lived her life loud and made an impact while she was here and would want everyone to do the same. For Cheri." - Keith

Life was short for you, there was more that you meant to do,
You thought that you had time, and we did too
You put in your 30 years, and filled it with joy and tears,
And left us wishin' that you, were still here

When I played you always came, and hollered out my name,
You told me someday, I'd find fame
Your sickness was in view, and though you wished it wasn't true
You just swigged it back like a shot of 90 proof

If you were here with us today
We all know what you would say

Don't waste time, over me
Get out and see the things you wanna see
And put everything you've got, into everything you believe
And when you do, just think about me

In sports and life the same, You were a lover of the game,
And everyone but this one you overcame
You told everyone you know, go on and let me go,
Get out there, and enjoy the show

(Chorus repeat)

Do You Really Get It
Keith Axtman ©2004

"As a child you go to church because your parents make you. It's not until later you realize what it's all about. This is a song to help remind me what my faith means to me." - Keith

You go to Mass every Sunday, you memorize the Rosary
You give your time, once a week, but I wonder if you really see
You say you're prayers every night, You believe you're doing right
You kneel to praise him, on your knees, but I wonder if you really see

Do you really get it, it's not how far you go in life,
It's how you live it,
Do you til someone said it, He died for you, Do you get it

You take this bread, with open hands,
You drink this wine, and think you understand
You take the leap of faith, say you believe in Christ
But I wonder what, you're really like
You give up your money at the offering,
You'd think that would cover everything
You say you lead, a Christian life, But I wonder what you're really like

(Chorus Repeat)

You're the first to sing along with every word
But when you do can you be heard, Oh no

(Chorus Repeat)

Victoria Secret
Keith Axtman ©2005

"I needed a new song but didn't have any inspiration, at least not until glancing through my wife's Victoria Secret magazine. There was a captivating article about the new swimwear collection by Calvin Klein and if I changed a few words around it made a nice rhyme. That turned into the first verse and the rest just took off from there. Donny Vosen, a buddy of mine who is a much better songwriter than me always says that to write a great song you need to "Write, write, and rewrite".  That's funny because this is his favorite song and I did nothing of the sort, I just spewed out the lyrics. This song is really about nothing….but it's fun." - Keith

They say that there's a song in everything you read and hear;
From all the pages of a romance book to the label on your bottle of beer,
Well I was sittin' around one day and on the table lay, there was a Victoria Secret, had to peak it, couldn't look away;
It said swimwear by Calvin Klein with the clean details and the lean lines make you the modest, hottest, bod on the beach and all of this is within your reach;
They're in the sun, it's flirty and fun and they're showing everything they've got; There's one in polkadots, that I like a lot and I realize that I just can't stop

So I turn and I turn and I turn and I turn, wondering if those models ever burn, so I turn and I turn and I turn and I turn, On all of those pages I've learned, there ain't nothing, like the one, named Laverne

I was in a club playing everyone of my 8 songs, a girl came along,
She said, You should really learn new music and I said I would darlin' If I could choose it, but you can't write songs when you're on the road with the rock star life and it's go go go, but what she said made sense in my head so I picked up a pen and I tried again

So I write and I write and I write - and rewrite,
Cuz that's what Donny Vosen said to do, Cuz if you write and you write and you write and rewrite, there's a chance that someone might find in you, their own special version of the truth

I'm not saying this is a hit song I've got,
Or that I can quit my day job,
I'm not saying anything other than,
I live my life just like this song, I'm making it up as I go along

A little boy came up to me said I saw your face on the MTV,
There were girls in bikinis, red Lamborghini's, and you in the back holdin' up a Zucchini,
I didn't get what the message was but I didn't really care cuz I felt the buzz, There was a party going down, weed passing 'round and everybody lovin' that folk pop sound

So I play and I play and I play and I play, Hopin' my guitar in tune will stay, Yea I play and I play and I play and I play, Till each and everyone of you will say, I'm the best damn thing you've heard today

Let it Ride
Keith Axtman ©2005

"I took a trip to San Francisco and being from Fargo, ND wasn't accustomed to all the homeless people I encountered as I walked the streets. And everyone wanted a handout. I've heard other tourists say that you can't give to everyone so don't give at all. Especially since some of them are scammers and don't really need it. I have a hard time with this. Yes, you cannot financially give to everyone, and yes you're taking a chance on which one to give to. But if you take a chance and give to just one person, you're at least trying to make a difference, especially during the holidays. Let it ride." - Keith

They're livin' without a house, and there are no easy outs,
and people turn away;
And your safe behind your walls, where nothin' worries you at all,
How can you relate;

So let it ride,
And take a chance Christmas time,
And do some good in your life,
Just let the feelings inside,
And give a little more this yuletide

They won't have a three-course meal, or hear the children squeal,
When Santa Claus stops by;
And they worry 'bout stayin' warm, without a loved one in their arms,
On a winter's night

(Chorus Repeat)
(Solo)

I'm not sayin' you can help each and everyone,
But if you give just one an extra hand you'll have your moment in the sun,
When the day is done, so let it ride…….

(Chorus Repeat)
So let it ride,
So let it ride,
So let it ride.

Hippie Wannabee
Keith Axtman ©2005

"My friend Darrin and I went to check out this bluegrass band called The Yonder Mountain String Band at a theatre downtown. We had great seats until the lights dimmed for the show to start and a hundred young hippie wannabee kids rushed the stage and bounced around like crazy during the entire concert. What a trip. A kid next to us was doing one hitters and trying to conceal all the smoke billowing in the air. They're smoking pot in the same theatre where a month ago I sat and watched my niece's ballet recital. I didn't expect to find what I did but I ended up enjoying it." - Keith

I threw away my last 18 bucks to see a show,
I was a little apprehensive but my buddy wanted to go,
Those Yonder Mountain boys were playing loud and playing fast,
But when I got there I saw something that made me wished I'da passed

There were wannabee, wannabee hippies,
Wearing their puka shell necklace and they dance that way cuz they're drunk I guess, they smoke marijuana, and idolize Garcia,
They wanna do everything that ain't been done, like it was before when the world was fun and free, they're Hippie Wannabees

We went there early and got a great seat, until those hippies stood up on their feet, we couldn't see nothin' the whole damn show and soon I was ready to go,
But there's one over there who don't give a care, with a sun dress on and limpy hippie hair, waivin' her arms up in the air made me so glad I was there

With those wannabee, wannabee hippies,…….
They wanna do everything that ain't been done like it was before at Woodstock #1, they're hippie wannabees

I love you and you and you and you,
So don't criticize me for doing the things I do
Like a doobie or two

There's things I just don't understand about the hippie nature of the modern man,
but that mountain music got under my skin so I tried my best to fit in;
So Hashish I tried it, my shirt I tie-dyed it, I'm ready for the show barefooted I go,
I want the whole world to know

I'm a wannabee, wannabee hippie
And I wear my puka shell necklace and I dance this way cuz I'm drunk you bet, I went to the head shop and bought a bong, along with a tape of Cheech and Chong, I'm gonna do everything that ain't been done like it was before when the world was fun, do everything that ain't been done like it was before at Woodstock #1, I'm a hippie wannabee
